DisciplesWorld Publisher and Editor Verity A. Jones will travel to Washington, D.C., next week to provide special coverage of Disciples participating in the inauguration of Barack Obama as the forty-fourth President of the United States.   

The selection of Disciples’ General Minister and President Sharon E. Watkins to preach at the national prayer service on the day after the inauguration (reported 1/11/09, www.disciplesworld.com) will be a highlight for Disciples and the centerpiece of Jones’ coverage.  The Jan. 21 service will take place at the National Cathedral and will be attended by the newly inaugurated president and vice-president. 

Jones will also attend the swearing in ceremony on Jan. 20 and a number of Disciples-related celebrations, including those sponsored by Disciples Center for Public Witness and National City Christian Church.

Jones will blog while in D.C. from Jan. 18 to Jan. 21 at http://disciplesworld.wordpress.com.  News stories will be posted to the DisciplesWorld home page during the event.
